Connection and Separation: The Dance of Shakti

Recently, I was listening to a podcast about the goddess/Shakti/creation. It was trying to put her into words. One part I keep reflecting on was how it spoke about the constant shift we can experience between connection and separation, how it is part of her essence. The feeling that we belong to everything, the awe of life, which can change in an instant, and you can feel completely disconnected, separate, like you belong to nothing. This constant shift between the two is part of her energy.

It got me thinking about why, how. How life can be cruel and yet the most magic filled existence at the same time.

It got me thinking about how women feel and experience that connection and separation. Men can experience connectedness to everything, but it will be on a more energetic, emotional level or on a past cellular level that they will never consciously remember from being in the womb. Whereas women can feel this connectedness on every level, what it feels like to not be separate, to be completely and utterly connected to more than just yourself. On every level, physically, energetically, spiritually. Because women can consciously experience this complete state of connectedness during pregnancy.

During birth, mother and baby become separate while simultaneously connected. The vast amount of separation a woman can feel with the loss of a baby. Because ultimately, she knew on every level an instant before what it was like to feel complete connection.

That is why this pull and push between states of connection and separation is her essence. Just even knowing that makes me feel like I can rest in both places with a little bit more ease.
